A New Chapter for Woodbridge

Discover the Quartz District

Live, shop, and thrive in Prince William County’s boldest project yet.

Progress often hums along the edges of our roadways at the heart of Northern Virginia before it rises skyward. A project already shaping how we move through Woodbridge is quietly taking shape: The Quartz District. Approved and already under design, this ambitious project isn’t just about concrete, steel, and square footage; it’s about reimagining what it means to live, shop, connect, and gather in Prince William County.

That’s the energy behind the Quartz District, a brand-new mixed-use community poised to transform how we live, move, and connect in Woodbridge.

“The best way to predict the future is to design it.” – R. Buckminster Fuller.

And that’s exactly what’s happening here. A better daily life purposefully designed for everyone who calls Prince William County home.

Three people standing in a modern, well-lit room with large windows. One person is gesturing upward, possibly pointing out features of the room to the others. They are smiling and appear interested. The windows allow natural light to fill the space. Text overlay says "A New Chapter for Woodbridge - Discover the Quartz District."

Not Just a Neighborhood, It’s A Lifestyle Upgrade

Let’s call it what it is: The Quartz District is not your typical development.

This project isn’t about squeezing in more rooftops. It’s about creating a vibrant, walkable environment where everyday errands can be done on foot, neighbors become friends, and parks become your new living room.

Here’s what’s on the way:

  • 1,000+ new townhomes and condos that offer modern comfort and walkable convenience
  • 300,000+ square feet of retail space for local shops, favorite chains, and everything in between
  • A county park, perfect for strolls, picnics, or just catching your breath after grocery shopping
  • Whole Foods as an anchor tenant, because kale shouldn’t be an interstate journey
  • Public art installations, community green spaces, and pedestrian-friendly design

Now imagine all of that tied together with walking paths and vibrant social spaces, and no car required. It’s the kind of place you might daydream about while stuck at a red light.

A Place Where Walking Makes Sense

Here in Northern Virginia, “walkability” is often promised and rarely delivered. But in the Quartz District, it’s front and center.

Think:

  • Grabbing coffee and strolling to the park, without crossing a highway
  • Letting the kids bike to a friend’s house, without giving yourself a heart attack from worry
  • A real community vibe, with public spaces designed for people, not parking lots

This is urban planning with a heart. And let’s be honest, Whole Foods within walking distance? That’s a love language.

Infrastructure That Moves You Forward

Of course, you can’t talk about transformation without addressing the elephant in the room, yes, I’m talking about “traffic.”

Right now, the intersection of Minnieville Road and Prince William Parkway sees over 50,000 vehicles a day. It’s one of those places where your Waze app quietly mutters, “Good luck.”

But relief is on the way.

Coming Soon: The $70M Interchange Makeover

Here’s the plan:

  • A two-level interchange that allows Prince William Parkway to pass underneath Minnieville Road
  • No more triple left-turn lanes or awkward cut-throughs through your neighbor’s street
  • A smoother flow designed to accommodate growth without chaos

And yes, construction will be staged so you don’t have to cancel your daily routines. You’ll still be able to get to work, school, and yes, Whole Foods.

When Will This All Happen?

Early 2025 kicks off with a five-month detour road to reroute traffic safely. That clears the way for the main event: 18 to 24 months of major construction. If all goes according to plan, we’re looking at a Grand Reveal by mid-2027.

Let’s be honest; most of us have unmentionables in our closets that are older than that. It’ll be here before we know it.

Smart Funding, Shared Investment

Big visions need strong backers. And thankfully, the Quartz District has both.

The funding includes:

  • A regional 0.5% sales tax dedicated to transportation improvements
  • A $2.5 million federal earmark courtesy of Rep. Abigail Spanberger

This isn’t just a county project; it’s a regional commitment to a smarter, better-connected Woodbridge. The investment signals real confidence in the value of this corridor and the people who live here.

Led By Locals, For Locals

Behind the blueprints and funding charts are community champions like Supervisor Victor Angry, who has worked to ensure this vision reflects the voices of long-time residents, not just newcomers.

On the technical side, Ric Canizales, Director of Transportation, and Hoainam Nguyen, a leading county engineer, are guiding the project with expert precision. They know every curb and crosswalk in this community, and they’re planning a build that works for everyone.

What Do Residents Think?

They’ve said it loud and clear:

  • They want to get around without sitting in gridlock.
  • They want homes they can grow into, not just squeeze into.
  • They want a Woodbridge that’s not just livable, but lovable.

The Quartz District

Don’t think of it as just a development; it’s a destination.

What makes this place different? It’s not just the scale. It’s the soul.

This isn’t just about throwing up some townhomes and hoping for the best.

It’s about:

  • Reimagining how we experience our days
  • Making everyday errands easier and more enjoyable
  • Building in color, culture, and convenience

This new district sets a higher bar for what suburban living can feel like.
